I am an enigma it has to be said,
From my arse to my elbow from my toes to my head,
A puzzle in motion, a riddle wearing shoes
Sometimes I’m the sunshine, others the blues.
I laugh when I’m sad, I cry at a joke,
I chase distant dreams enshrouded in smoke,
One foot is in logic the other in awe,
I’m knocking on windows whilst ignoring the door.
My thoughts are like kites in a hurricane sky,
They tangle and twist and then suddenly they fly,
I speak sometimes in riddles, I can’t sing but I sigh,
And I dance with my thoughts in a world of just why.
I have had dinner with my demons, and I drink with my saints,
I’ve worn shining armour and I’ve been covered in paints,
My truth can wear disguises, my lies wear perfume,
You may find me in silence, alone in my room.
I build empires of castles in pure white sand,
Then watch them be destroyed by my own clumsy hand,
A storm and the calm, a scream and a prayer,
A jester, a drunk or a queen with wild hair.
So if you should meet me don’t try to define,
This chaos of wonder, this creature divine,
For I am an enigma it has to be said,
From my arse to my elbow, from my toes to my head.
