A New Beginning

I have to go I can’t stay here,

This place is full of hate, and it reeks of my fear,

It once was my home, my soft safe place,

But things they changed at an alarming pace.

The walls once warm now close me in,

Each breath I take feels like a mortal sin,

The laughter has gone, the lights have grown dim,

And kindness wears a weird, crooked grin.

I packed my hopes, my dreams in silence tight,

And left beneath the veil of night,

No backward glance, no last goodbye,

Just heavy steps under a tear stained sky.

Perhaps ahead there lies some peace,

A quiet place where doubts can cease,

Where truth and love are not so rare,

And I can once again breath some good clean air.
