No Time to Say Goodbye

We didn’t have time to say goodbye,

One moment you were here, laughing and breathing,

Your presence so solid beside me.

Then suddenly you weren’t.

You were cruelly snatched from me,

Like a page torn from a book, mid chapter,

Like a light switched off without warning,

Plunging me into darkness and despair.

I wanted to say thank you, but was denied that chance,

Thank you for your love,

Unassuming, unwavering but passionate,

The kind of love that made the world feel safe.

Thank you for your support.

The way you stood behind me,

Especially when I doubted myself,

Even when the rest of the world looked away,

You were there for me.

Thank you for your loyalty and fidelity,

Not just the promises, but the small things you never thought I noticed,

The way you gently spoke about us,

The way you believed in us,

The way that you held our happiness in your hands and in your heart,

Like it was the most precious of treasures.

I am so sorry that I didn’t say those things.

I thought we had more time.

Now there is only silence and coldness,

With the ache of all I never said haunting me.

But know this,

You were my everything,

And I carry you in everything I do.

For eternity.
