The Weight of Two

I know it is a mess, but the mess is all mine,

I am happy to live in a mess and that is just fine,

The problem is when the mess is then shared,

As what is mine, I can bear but sharing leaves me feeling real scared.

I can carry the weight when the weight is my own,

Being independent does not always mean being alone,

So let me remain where my solitude stays,

Doing my thing to the end of my days.

Although love is sweet, the cost can be too high,

Remaining my own person, not letting life pass by.

And if someone does join me, they will know from the start,

I keep my own rhythm but can also share my whole heart.

So, I will walk my path with my spirit still free,

But leave space in my journey for love next to me.

For two people in harmony can emit far more light

And help one another keep warm through the night.
