What Did I Want?

I didn’t want a pushover,

I didn’t want a doll,

I didn’t want a nobody,

I wanted someone with soul.

I didn’t want a fool,

I didn’t want a swot,

I didn’t want a diva,

I wanted someone who had the lot.

I didn’t want a beauty,

I didn’t want a ghoul,

I didn’t want a drama queen,

I wanted someone cool.

We ended up together,

We ended up a pair,

We ended a married couple,

And neither did despair.

If you were a poet or an author,

You couldn’t write the plot,

With twists and turns to confuse,

We found it so exciting, enjoyed all that we got.

Now forty years have passed,

And we enter the final straight,

A family all behind us,

And for another one we wait
