Grief

You know things are wrong when the silence feels heavy,

When the light streams in but it’s hard to see,

The fresh air blows through the window smelling stale,

I know that’s the time that you have left me.

When bird song sounds like a cacophonous noise,

When the sun light casts shadows blurred,

And stars no longer twinkle in the night sky,

This is when my deep sorrow is stirred.

We spent so long together, the greatest of teams,

We shared every joke and had so much fun,

It seemed unfair to others how happy we were,

But the laughter has stopped as our time it has run.

So I sit here now with my heart blown asunder,

Wishing only to join you again in whatever form,

Life has no meaning it is painful to breathe,

I cannot carry on if these feelings are now the norm.

I will close my eyes and hold tight to the memories,

Seeking your warmth in the cold of the night,

Until the dawn one day softly breaks through the dark

And carries me home back into your light.
