Relationship Crime

I hate being lied to, deceived, or misled,

For suspicions quickly take root in my head.

I plant a small seed one I water and feed,

That grows in the dark like a ravenous weed.

Be straight with me always, no meaningless words,

No clever evasions, no games for the birds.

For when doubt and confusion are finally clear,

My spirit is calm, and my heart does not fear.

Kept secrets are poison, like a venomous snake,

Leaving me to question what’s true and what’s fake.

The damage remains like a visible scar

But is this truly the people we say that we are?

I choose to forgive, but healing takes time,

To slowly recover from relationship crime

Step by step, side by side, we can clear out the past,

And build on a truth that is destined to last.
